Pluto No Longer A Planet

Just read this on Yahoo News:

Pluto Demoted, No Longer a Planet

Capping years of intense debate, astronomers resolved today to demote Pluto in a wholesale redefinition of planethood that is a victory of scientific reasoning over historic and cultural influences.

Pluto is no longer a planet.

"Pluto is dead," said Caltech researcher Mike Brown, who spoke with reporters via a teleconference while monitoring the vote. "Pluto is not a planet. There are finally, officially, eight planets in the solar system."

On a related note, the Walt Disney Company was quick to release a press statement, explaining that Pluto still meets all the requirements to be a cartoon dog.

Goofy refused to comment.

This is just great. When I was in school we used the pneumonic device "My Very Eager Mother Just Served Us Nine Pizzas" to learn the planets. Changing it to "My very eager mother just served us nine" makes it too open ended. Served us nine what? Beers? Cheesy tots? It also renders two episodes of Blue's Clues obsolete. There's a little song they sing about the planets. What were scientists thinking, taking Pluto away from us? They might as well push for the metric system again. I think I will spend my day thinking of a new pneumatic device...
Like Ohran, I too lol'd at the Goofy thing.
