Carlos the Carpet Guy

So, there I was, sitting at my desk at work yesterday morning, when my cell phone rang. In and of itself, that was odd enough; I rarely get phone calls at work, and when I do, it's usually on the work phone. Weirder still was that I didn't recognize the number -- I rarely give my cell phone number out, and when I do, people don't call me anyway!

Curious, I answered the phone. A man on the other end of the line, speaking with a heavy Hispanic accent, said, "This is Carlos."

I replied, "Who?"

"Carlos the carpet guy."

Without really thinking about it, I told him that he'd dialed the wrong number, and that was the end of the conversation. Later, upon reflection, it turned out to be one of those moments where you wished you had just a bit more time to think things through. If I'd been a wee bit quicker creatively, the conversation might've went something like this...

"Hello."

"This is Carlos."

"Who?"

"Carlos the carpet guy."

"Ah, Carlos. Good to hear from you, my friend. You know, I've been thinking... I want you to rip every last bit of carpeting out of my house, and replace it with the best stuff you've got. I'm serious, spare no expense. Money is no object, because, really, if you can't spend it on your family, then the terrorists have won... Am I right? Oh, and Carlos... after work, I want you to take your entire crew out for steaks at Mountain Jack's, and send me the bill..."

I've still got his number. Anyone need some carpeting?
